Apartment culture

Apartment living, which emerged in Iran in the 1940s, many psychologists believe need social skills training these days. The laws of this way of life, which were passed under the title of “apartment ownership” in 1343 and were revised in the 1360s, indicate the importance of respecting social rights in this collective structure.

According to a number of analysts, this lifestyle is difficult and requires culture-building due to its conflict with the culture and race of the Orient, who have long experienced ruralization and traditional architecture. A style that changed the traditional architecture and also affected social relations, forgetting every single sweet memory of those days.

Mahdieh Rahmanian, PhD in Clinical Psychology, told IRNA: “The culture of societies around the world is divided into collectivist and individualist groups; Eastern societies (continental Asia) follow the first (collectivist) culture.

He added: “In other words, Eastern societies want collective life and large families, and accordingly, the acceptance of apartment culture due to limited social communication in these countries is difficult.”

Rahmanian stated: With the beginning of this way of life (apartment living), large families disappeared, social relations moved away from Eastern culture and race, and this was psychologically accompanied by activation of the sympathetic system (autonomic nervous system) and anxiety. .

According to this clinical psychologist, in fact, these social relations based on the culture and civilization of Iranian society are considered as natural human needs and leaving any of the natural needs and desires will inevitably cause helplessness, cramps, anxiety and depression.

Rahmanian went on to say that in recent years, but due to the passage of time, the culture of apartment living has expanded, noting: It is obvious, but compared to previous years, society’s acceptance of this lifestyle has expanded.

He added: in order to effectively accept this culture, alternative solutions must always be considered; Maintaining social relationships and the continuity of family gatherings and banquets is one of the most important alternatives to reduce the destructive effects and consequences of this issue.

Apartment living is a western phenomenon

According to some analysts, the acceptance of this culture has been difficult due to the transfer from Western societies; It is not compatible with the culture and civilization of Iran, as well as the mood and spirits of society, and is not observed accordingly.

Of course, according to many experts, communities around the world are moving towards apartment living, and therefore it is essential to follow this culture.

Afshin Tabatabai, a psychologist and researcher on social issues, stated in this regard: Throughout history, the context of human life has changed from rural to urban, and accordingly, apartment living has emerged.

He added: “This lifestyle requires the observance of some actions as social rights and also the forgiveness of some individual needs and desires.”

.

This researcher emphasized: the phenomenon of apartment living has been transferred to Iran from Western societies and based on this, it is difficult to adapt to many habits and traditions, temperaments and spirits of Iranian society.

Tabatabai, referring to the construction of some high-rise apartments, said: The construction of many of these apartments also shows the desire of Iranian society to the style and context of previous houses. The construction of a roof garden (green roof) on the roof of the building is another sign of this interest.

He stated: Apartment living is a necessity in the world today; In the past, the context of cities was different from the present time, and this must be accompanied by the acceptance of society.

The psychologist added: “In other words, society is moving towards apartment living and this culture must inevitably be accepted;” Therefore, from an educational point of view, especially through the media, this style of urban life should also be considered by the society.
